Welcome to the Garage

Project cars are cars that you buy cheap that are usually older vehicles that needs restored. Restoring the cars will take many months or years to get them back to the original condition or better than new condition. There is no better feeling than getting a car that was considered junkyard material and bringing it back to life.

Finding the right car can be the biggest challenge of restoring a project car can be finding the perfect car. It’s getting harder and harder to find the great classics in your price range. Depending on how much money you have to spend or how much time and effort you want to put in the project will determine what car to buy.

The price of restoring a vehicle can range from a few thousand dollars to several thousand dollars. It depends on how far you want to take the vehicle. You have to redo everything on an older car from the interior to the bumpers, but when you are finished it will be a great looking car.

There are more and more car shows where you can meet other car lovers at local restaurants and drive ins weekly and sit and admire all the vehicles for a few hours each week.

If you are looking for cheap project cars there are several places that you can look to get a great deal, right now with the economy the way it is, cars are going cheap, while this isn’t the time to sell one, it is the time to buy one and start your project.  So where do you start when looking for a car? Here are a few suggestions of where to find a car.

  • Project Cars Garage
  • Ebay
  • Craigslist
  • Old Small Towns ( this is where I found a 1968 Chevelle convertible driven by an older lady)
  • Back Yards, behind houses
  • Old Barns
  • Car shows

These are just some of the places that you can find deals on vehicles. Car swap meets are great places to look, usually on the last day of the swap meet you can get great deals as people don’t want to travel back home hauling the car.  Most of these cars are restored to some degree and you just have to finish them.  Some are total restores that basically start out as basket cases.

Once you find the car the next major challenge will be finding the parts for the cars. Most of the time the salvage yards won’t have the parts anymore, or if they do, you have to drive quite a ways to get to that junk yard but with the Internet now you can find the cars and the parts easier.  Throughout the pages on this site we have listings of places that we use to find parts and material when we are restoring the vehicles. Most of these places usually have the parts needed already in stock.
