El Camino was Chevy’s answer to the guys that wanted classic trucks, but also wanted muscle when driving. It’s a combination between a muscle car and a pickup. It can be expensive to restore these vehicles. Even finding a cheap project El Camino can end up costing you money if you want to make it showroom quality. The chrome bed moldings can run over $500 if you need to replace it all. (Learned that from experience). So my tip of the day would be if you are going to consider buying an El Camino, check that chrome and make sure its decent.
We have restored several El Camino’s and they were mostly inexpensive, easy to do and were great money makers when we sold them. You can swap out the engine for a big block and they will have the power that you need while still being classy enough to drive to car shows.
Finding El Caminos are easy. They are still popular and still available for cheap purchases. You can pick up El Caminos fairly inexpensive and restore for very little money.
What to watch for, under the bed sometimes it will rust out. Before purchasing an El Camino check under the car for rust. Chrome is expensive. Be especially mindful of the bed chrome. The after market chrome can be tricky to make it fit, and sometimes will not fit right. Normally everything else with the El Camino is easy to put on and fits right.
